Maithon Dam

The distance of Maithon Dam is 55 kms from Dhanbad city. The best way to reach Maithon from Dhanbad would be by car or hired taxi. Public transport is also available. It takes approximately 2 hours to reach there. You can do boating and sight seeing around Maithon dam and Damodar river. Kalyaneshwari Temple

If you are coming to Maithon Dam, visiting Kalyaneshwari will be a good bet. It is only 5 Kms from Maithon Dam. Temple of goddess Kalyaneshwari is 500-years old, but it is widely believed that the original structure was created by Harigupta in the 3rd Century AD. As per folk lores, human sacrifices were offered at Kalyaneshwari in the remote past. People around the place believe Goddess Kalyaneshwari fulfills the wishes of childless women. Kalyaneshwari temple is 20 Kms from the nearby city of Asansol in the state of West Bengal.
Topchanchi Lake

Situated at a distance of 31 kms from Dhanbad, Topchanchi lake is a famous reservoir and its pristine surroundings make it a famous tourist and picnic spot. Topchanchi is spread across 214 acres and water from this lake is supplied to Dhanbad city. The ideal time to visit is between September to March. During winter, if you are lucky you can see several migratory birds in the lake. Topchanchi is surrounded by mountains, wildlife sanctuaries and Parashnath hills. The best way to reach there is by car or taxi. It will take nearly an hour and half to be there.
Bhatinda Falls

Bhatinda Falls is 14 kms from Dhanbad and is one of the nearest tourist cum picnic spots. You can enjoy the pristine surroundings and nature around the falls. Local tour operators arrange visit to the falls but alternatively you can get there by car or taxi. Please avoid going very near to the falls as the force of water is very high and freak accidents are not uncommon when safety is ignored here.
